A-Reece Releases “Deadlines: Free P2” EP

Before I begin this write-up, this is not a review but due to the nature of my job, I have to write about this release upon the release. So consider this a news post rather than an assessment of the product.

The album serves as a precursor to his Paradise 2 and will no doubt appease the $limes in the meantime while we wait for Paradise 2. The 7-track offering has a runtime of 23 minutes and has quite an interesting list of features. Included on the album is Quentin Miller, who is best known for his songwriting credits on Drake’s If You’re Reading This, It’s Too Late, frequent collaborator Marcus Harvey, Jay Jody, DJ Maphorisa and Emtee.

The opening 3 tracks of the album see A-Reece delve into an introspective brand of rap we heard on his prior offerings, Today’s Tragedy, Tomorrow’s Memory: the mixtape and The Burning Tree while songs like BIGGER THAN ME and DIFFERENT THINGS see him enter a more melodic pocket with the latter being a dance-rap crossbreed. Ultimately he closes the album on a rather subdued and deeply introspective tone on GODLIKE where he reflects on the toll of the pressures that come with being A-Reece.
