adidas has unveiled a special edition jersey designed by renowned designer NIGO who is best known as the founder of A Bathing Ape (BAPE). The native countryman’s design of the kit was inspired by the traditional meal, Sakuramochi. The Sakuramochi is a specific type of rice cake which is pink in hue and is wrapped in a cherry blossom leaf, which is where the green sleeves take inspiration from. The number 22 is symbolic of the year, as this is a World Cup year.
In keeping with their pursuit of sustainable fashion, the special edition kit is constructed of 50% parley plastic which is collected from remote islands, coastal communities and shorelines. The new kit will be dawned by Japan in the upcoming Dubai World Cup in their first match against Spain on the 1st of December.
