BET Awards Rebuffing lil Nas X Stems from Homophobia

“thank you bet awards. an outstanding zero nominations again”

The BET Awards are construed as an American award show that was brought to existence 20 years ago, on the 19th of June of 2001 to be exact, as a way to celebrate and highlight black creatives and artists in the music, film, sports and a number of other fields in the creative and entertainment industry.

It’s 2022 now and the same award show that was established to celebrate black artists in the entertainment industry is taking it away from a black artist, Lil Nas X, a rapper and singer that doesn’t shy away from their sexuality and being a black queer rap artist – How contradictory. We have seen them being unapologetic and impenitent while simultaneously making chart topping hits, creating groundbreaking music videos and having jaw dropping performances, but got zero nominations at the 2022 BET awards.

Even though BET responded to Lil Nas X claiming that “We love Lil Nas X. He was nominated for a best new artist BET Award in 2020, and we proudly showcased his extraordinary talent and creativity on the show twice” after posting a series of tweets and a short clip of a “diss track” on Instagram. This scenario is undeniably looking like it has homophobia engraved in it because Lil Nas X’s “Industry baby” a single from their debut album Montero was the longest running song on the Billboard rap chart of all time, so how are they not deserving of a nomination? or maybe they don’t anything to do with him after his performance at the 2021 BET awards?

Anyways, Happy Pride Month and yes “F*ck BET.”
