Sphephelo Mnguni is a visual artist based in Durban, KwaZulu Natal. Mnguni’s practice journey’s the focal point of blackness, culture and modernity. KZNSA (Kwazulu Natal Society of Arts) defines his artistry as a practice that seeks to document black culture in all its permutations. His work is also said to be inspired by inequalities observed and experienced in his daily life, and by discourses of blackness in South Africa and in the African diaspora.
Sphephelo Mnguni will be opening his debut solo exhibition at BKhz Gallery tomorrow at the BKhz Gallery in Rosebank. As announced on their social media account, everyone is invited to the first showing of “The Sampling: Thinking inside the box”. The show will be part of his ‘continuous exploration of a modern black experience, and the importance of heritage and culture in contemporary creation in South Africa and beyond.’ – Thobeka Bhengu
