The name Ibn Jasper may not be familiar to most people in the world of sneakers because he is most famously known as Kanye West’s former stylist. Alas, his ascension from humble beginnings in the windy city of Chicago to being a celebrity designer illustrates his ambition and eye for fashion.
Converse called on Ibn Jasper to create his interpretation of the One Star sneaker and the collaboration takes inspiration from the chequered flag used in racing to single the end of a race, and the bulky design draws on the ‘modification’ spirit of motorcars. In an interview with HYPEBEAST, the designer credited “Overhaulin” as one of the shows that drove his love for modification.
“When Converse let me know that they wanted me to work one a One Star, I immediately thought of Muscle Cars as my inspiration to “modify” the shoe”– Ibn Jasper
