Jay Jody’s First Full-Length Project “Sunset Stories: A Mixtape” Has Landed

Jay Jody has finally dropped off his first full-length project called Sunset Stories: A Mixtape as promised. This new experiences offers 12 tracks in total with features from the likes Una Rams, A-Reece, Marcus Harvey, Blxckie, Boy Wonder, Kaydance, Towdee Mac and IMP THA DON. Narratively its said that this tape offers fans/listeners a a snapshot of Jay Jody’s life and headspace.

On songs such as ‘Don’t Beg for Love’, the Pretoria lyricist is said to speak on the dangers of over-reliance on outside validation in the social media age alongside PTA rap veteran Boy Wonder which is a topic he expands on with ‘You Ain’t Gotta Like Me’, where he brings out the receipts that solidify him as a thoroughbred of SA hip-hop.

The warm, breezy “Purple Palm Trees” (featuring Marcus Harvey and Jay Jody’s brother, A-Reece) coalesces the cocktail of production styles that define Sunset Stories. On the Afrobeats-leaning “Sundress”, Jay and R&B singer Una Rams fall under the spell of a lover’s summer gown and its captivating silhouette. The project concludes with “Sunset Stories, Tales of the Cool”, where Jay Jody laces the key-laden beat with grown-man talk: “Careful with your pride/Kill your fucking ego/Put it in a body bag and make sure that you zip it up.”

All the songs on the tape were written by Jay Jody himself and production-wise SundaeBeats came through and delivered. So far this tape offers a variety of rap and laid-back vibes with tones that range from romantic ones to a more bravado approach but there is something for everybody… We’re having a good time thus far.
