Over the past two days MTV Base hosted their most controversial annual show called, the “Base Hottest MCs”. Recalling years back when this new content idea began, it became credible to the public but as the years went by and as of recent, many agree that the show has lost its credibility.
Blaming the choice of panelists, many viewers and listeners of South African hip-hop believe that the panelist are made up of individuals who aren’t necessarily tapped into the culture in the most proactive manner, hence why they tend to miss when naming the top 10 MCs of the year.
This year, MTV Base TV personality Tshego Koke, gathered around with French Frym, Kyeezi, Misa Narrates, Uncle Partytime, Mars Ambrosio and Fif Laaa. This year’s panelist gathered a very provocative list of MCs and named the 23 year old KZN native, Sihle Sithole, professionally known as Blxckie, the hottest MC of 2022, earning him the number one spot on the list.
Many MTV Base viewers shared their thoughts on social media once again, and the ratio of disagreements to agreements is greater – Meaning the list may appear inaccurate and felt that some artists such as Big Zulu and Lucasraps should have been left out, while others think certain rappers such as Thato Saul and Tyson Sybateli should have been included in the top ten conversation.
Let us know in the comments if the MTV Base “Hottest MC” list should continue annually or be completely scrapped from the program.
