South African brands Munkus and Maxhosa at Lagos Fashion Week

One of Africa’s most anticipated fashion shows has passed and this year it featured two South African brands that are Munkus and Maxhosa. Lagos Fashion Week (LagosFW), is a four-day event hosted in Nigeria’s fashion hub of Lagos, it is a platform that provides for the Nigerian and ultimately African fashion industry by bringing together buyers, customers, and the media to look at designers’ most recent collections.

This collection was inspired by my mother
Munkus
Minkus‘s collection is heavily inspired by her mother, her garment spoke confidence and elegance. Her collection featured ball gown dresses that are ankle length and flawless dresses that allow women to be their most vibrant, comfortable, and outspoken selves. Thando also added a floral elegant dress that you can wear to any occasion, her collection was a fashion of 80’s fashion in a modern way that gave the audience an ultimate local experience.

Maxhosa’s collection came with a refreshing fun look for his collection. Maxhosa’s ready-to-wear garments were colourful and playful featuring south African fashion influence and culture. I loved how he incorporated casual and traditional, I also loved the colour coordination of the collection. The collection also featured accessories that honours conventional Xhosa design. The inspiration comes from Laduma Ngxokolo’s own cultural ties to his heritage that is so envidently Xhosa.
