SZA’s New Album “SOS” Comes Out This Friday

After waiting for five very long years, the wait is finally over. SZA took to socials to share the upcoming album cover, title, and release date. The album is titled SOS and is set to be released this coming Friday – the 09th of December 2022. SZA is an American singer-songwriter signed to Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) and RCA Records. I believe she rose to popularity through her feature on ‘Consideration’, the opening song on Rihanna’s 2016 album Anti which she co-wrote. She has one album with another on the way and three EPs, namely SeeSZA.Run, S and Z.

Her debut album Ctrl was released on the 9th of June 2017 and it is one of my all-time favourite bodies of work, the songwriting and singing are just {a chef’s kiss}. The album topped charts and broke records with five songs namely; ‘Drew Barrymore’, ‘Love Galore’, ‘The Weekend’, ‘Broken Clocks’, and ‘Garden (Say It Like Dat)’ being certified Platinum (or higher) by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), debuting at number three on the US Billboard 200 and moving 60,000 equivalent-album units in its first week. Ctrl now has a deluxe edition featuring seven new songs.

Control is an illusion, but as SZA’s mother suggests at the open and close of Ctrl, there’s power in holding on to the illusion, even while acknowledging it as much.

SZA released a single titled ‘Shirt‘ in October which is the first official single previewing the forthcoming album. Just like SZA’s previous work, ‘Shirt’ follows suit with amplifying the estrangement, mutiny and sexual power of some romantic love. “Still don’t know my worth, still stressing perfection. Let you all in my mental, got me looking too desperate, damn, you ain’t deserve” she sings in the closing lines of this song.
