The Emergence of Asake – Mr. Money with the Vibe

His government name is Ahmed Ololade, but the masses know him by his stage name Asake (pronounced as Ah-sha-ke) or as “Mr. Money with the vibe.” His stage name pays homage to his mother as it is derived from her name, Asake. Born and raised in Nigeria’s largest city, Lagos – Asake set in motion his music career in 2018, but it only started progressing further in 2020 after the release of the single ‘Mr. Money’ which later got remixed with Zlatan and Peruzzi. Two after the release of ‘Mr. Money’ Asake followed through by releasing his debut EP titled Ololade which featured two of his breakthrough songs ‘Omo Ope’ featuring Olamide who he is now signed under and ‘Sungba’ an explosive sound of uptempo afrobeat and amapiano production.
I believe the rise of Asake began after the release of ‘Sungba’ and its remix a month later with a feature from Nigerian fellow artist Burna Boy, who premiered the record to the world at his Madison Square Garden concert in April 2022. From then onward Asake has been steadily cementing himself as the newest Nigerian artist to be on the lookout for. He brought a refreshing new sound that drew together two countries through the two genres he intertwines, his home sound Afrobeat and South Africa’s dance genre Amapiano with the help of Yahoo Boy No Laptop Nation, affectionately known as YBNL Nation or simply YBNL, is an independent record label.

Two months ago Asake released his highly anticipated debut album, Mr Money with the Vibe, one of my favourite releases of the year. This project is currently dominating charts both in the African continent and abroad. The album recently made its debut on the Billboard Albums Charts after receiving nearly one million (991,500) streams in Nigeria within the first day of release. Asake stands out because his music is genre-bending. Most of his catalogue incorporates afrobeats, amapiano, hip hop, and traditional Nigerian fuji. “To create a positive chorus, he also employs praise chant, street slang, and street rap.” Complex describes Asake as “arguably the hottest breakout star from Nigeria this year.”
Listening to his songs provides a refreshing feeling, transporting you to a high-spirited environment as soon as you press play. No matter how often they listen to his songs, fans never get tired of listening to his lyrics.

[…] Asake, who freshly graced the cover of The Native Mag released the fifth music video off the Mr. Money With The Vibe album for ‘Organise’ following the ‘Joha’ music video released two months ago. The music video was released a week ago and it’s a little embarrassing that I found out about it a few hours when I am lowkey an Asakarians. […]
