Cinthia Sifa Mulanga is a 20-something-year-old Congolese visual artist based in South Africa. She has had her artworks exhibited in Paris, London and had her recent exhibition at the Investec Cape Town Art Fair with Batho Projects as part of the Gang Gang group exhibition, alongside Bahati Simoens & Muofhe Manavhela. She just recently collaborated with powerhouse and luxury brand, Gucci to celebrate the Gucci Diana tote bag that was essentially a Gucci tote bag that Princess Diana wore so often. The bag was first presented by Gucci in the early 90s which happens to be along the same timeframe that Princess Diana of Wales became a renowned style icon and had this Gucci tote with its famous bamboo handles as her go-to.
On Cinthia’s artworks, we see her re-imagination of the Gucci Diane tote bag as it is boldly painted in royal blue with hints of mustard on her mixed- media pieces.
“I’m only now digesting what has happened and starting to understand the impact of my work and how different it is.”
Cinthia Sifa Mulanga.
