Gyakie might not be a name that you are all that familiar with, however, she is definitely one you should take note of going forward. Looking at the African landscape, there is definitely a ‘passing of the torch’ moment that we are witnessing. As much as we all love established acts, there has been an emergence of newer acts on the continent, and one such act is Ghanian born artist, Gyakie.
She released her second EP, titled MY DIARY, where she uncovers her most private thoughts for the world to hear. Needless to say, that is no easy feat for an artist.
VevoDSCVR is a platform aimed at showcasing the best in rising talent from around the world and with all eyes firmly locked on the continent, it comes as no surprise to see an African trailblazer like Gyakie on the platform. With all of the behind-the-scenes processing, it is not all that uncommon to find that an artist’s studio performance doesn’t translate all that well as a live performance, however, that wasn’t the case at all with Gyakie. Her downtempo performance of “Far Away” was an intimate serenading experience, whereas her contrasting performance of “Waka Waka” was thrilling. Perhaps there is more in her locker than what I have given her credit for. Plug into her performances below.
